Homework on Tools for Working with Information

Your task is to choose one of the ways we work with information (text editors, table editors, database editors, graphics editors - bitmap and vector, communication tools - offline and online, and presentation tools - slide-show editors and internet browsers) and find at least five examples of software for that area. You should find out the name of the product (program), the name of the company that created this product and the operating system(s) it works in.

Information Society exercise

Your next task is to find on the Internet web sites where you can find information about the different areas of computer impact on society. These are the areas we talked about:

• workplace - jobs, new job opportunities, the office
• bussiness, finances, banking
• industry
• transport
• medicine and healthcare
• art, entertainment, sport
• society, politics
• handicapped people

Find at least one web-site for each area, copy the address to a text file and e-mail me the text file when you are done.

Homework on Information Society

Find and write down short definitions for each of the virus-types we talked about and write at least one example to each type (the name of the virus + what does it do). Sites of large antivirus-companies can help you with information on viruses as well. Try for example a site on eset.com.
